Colour, Character & Creative Living: Inside Suzy’s Bold Victorian Home

Colour, Character & Creative Living: Inside Suzy’s Bold Victorian Home

When it comes to transforming a house into a home, few people do it with as much personality and flair as Suzy — an artist, interior designer, and mum of four based in Sheffield. Her Victorian end terrace is packed with original features and beautiful bones, but when she and her husband Iain moved in, the interior was muted and neutral.

“It was lovely before, it just wasn’t our style. ”

Suzy specialises in colour and pattern, both in her artwork and interiors, so it was only a matter of time before the house began to evolve into something far more personal. Over the past two years, she’s layered in design-led details — reimagining each space with a playful but timeless touch. At the heart of her vision? Tiles that bring life, colour, and long-lasting charm.

The Kitchen: Pattern That Speaks Softly

Tile used: Alhambra Felisa

In the kitchen-dining space, Suzy wanted to create impact — but with restraint. The room is mostly white, acting as a clean canvas for bolder accessories and accents, so the tiles needed to complement that without shouting.

“I wanted something that injected beautiful pattern and a bold statement… but without being too fashionable. I didn’t want them to date.”

She chose the Felisa tile from our Alhambra collection — a beautifully varied monochrome design with irregular shapes and a handcrafted feel. The pattern adds rhythm and texture to the walls, while the colour palette keeps the look grounded and neutral.

“They’re timeless — I can change everything else around them, and they’ll still work.”

The result is a space that feels curated but relaxed — a perfect blend of modern and traditional influences, where colour can shift and evolve without replacing the foundations.

The Fireplace: Traditional Meets Contemporary

Tile used: Ravine Verde Green

The living room features one of the home’s most eye-catching original details: a Victorian fireplace with a classic white surround. Suzy kept the architectural elegance but swapped the hearth tiles for something bolder — and the result is a modern refresh that still feels sensitive to the home’s heritage.

“I wanted a focal point. Something patterned and colourful that would bring the whole room together.”

She landed on Ravine Verde Green, a rich, earthy tile that offers subtle variation in tone and texture. It ties in beautifully with the deep blue walls, orange-toned sofas, and layered soft furnishings throughout the space.

“They’re quite modern tiles, but they’ve got that classic twist — they sit so well in a period home.”

This thoughtful mix of colour and contrast creates a balanced, inviting space that still delivers that all-important wow moment when you walk in.

The Entrance: First Impressions That Stick

Tile used: Maison Norton

Suzy always had a vision for the entrance to her home — something that would set the tone before you even walked through the door. With its original double doors and strong architectural features, the space was crying out for a classic tiled pathway. She chose Maison Norton, a beautifully detailed geometric design inspired by traditional Victorian mosaics.

“I wanted it to be a real moment — something that hints at what’s inside.”

This design comes as a full set — a striking central pattern tile with matching borders and corners — making it ideal for creating framed layouts that feel authentic to period properties. The mix of terracotta, black, soft green and cream echoes the warmth of Suzy’s orange door, while the graphic layout gives it real impact.

“It’s a very, very striking entrance. As soon as the kids saw it, they were like, ‘This is so much more us now.’”

The tiles don’t just frame the home — they reflect the spirit of it: bold, expressive, and full of joy.

Design That Grows With You

Throughout her home, Suzy has shown how thoughtful tile choices can elevate a space — not just for today, but for years to come. Each room blends bold personality with timeless design, allowing her to adapt and restyle over time without needing to start from scratch.

“They’re beautiful tiles — really easy to use. Just be warned: you’ll lose hours of your life scrolling through the collections!”
